Reflecting the beauty of Brazil’s landscape and people

Reviewed in the United States on February 1, 2021

Saxophonist Kenney Polson has offered several excellent recordings of his enviable art such as PARADISE, FOR LOVERS ONLY, THIS CHRISTMAS, LOVE ON A TWO WAY STREET, and now he adds COLORS OF BRAZIL – a new and refreshing direction that embraces his love of Brazilian music. Polson is a bulwark in American jazz, having gained his master’s degree in jazz composition and arranging for Howard University, and spreading the word through his performance here and abroad (including Brazil!).

For this recording Keeney adds interesting new instruments to his sound – harp, Japanese koto, African nGnoni – that provide a rich musical atmosphere so important in the delivery of this music.

The tracks are Aquarela Do Brazil, Mesmerized (Hipnotizado), Caravan, Flor De Lis, Mariana, Leva E Traz, Bicycle Ride, Incompatidade De Genios, Obsession, and Luz Do Sol.

The result – a major impression on the creativity of Kenney Polson – and friends! Recommended. Grady Harp, February 21
