Totally engaging Latin jazz Kenney Polson – COLORS OF BRAZIL: Veteran West Coast saxophonist Kenney has created a totally engaging Latin jazz experience for listeners of all persuasions… though the album isn’t officially releasing until March, 2021, you can listen to it in advance…
Kenney also has his own YouTube channel, which you should SUBSCRIBE to if you enjoyed what you heard on his upcoming release; to get an up-close look at his lively style, check this performance out, too…
On “Colors of Brazil”, I found the 5:40 “Caravan” to be one of the most energetic jazz tunes I’ve heard (yet) in 2021… every note is “on”, and jazz DJ’s across the globe will be plugging this into their rotations frequently, I predict!
The gently swaying rhythms and nature sounds on the opener, “Aquarela do Brazil“, will have you hitting “replay” often… a very danceable tune that will give you visions of tropical paradise, no doubt.
I’m not exactly sure why, but (somehow) I didn’t think a tune titled “Mariana” would be as down & funky as it is… this piece just ROCKS, and Kenney’s alto sax will rocket you straight into the stratosphere!
It wasn’t really a surprise that I gravitated towards Kenney’s original composition, “Mesmerized“… I always favor tunes written by the artist; this is my personal favorite of the ten tantalizing tunes Kenney offers up for your jazz journey.
I give Kenney and all his players a MOST HIGHLY RECOMMENDED rating, with an “EQ” (energy quotient) score of 4.98 for this solid jazz release. Get more information on Kenney’s website as it becomes available.
